More of YOU Mondays: Greater Is Coming

When I first started this blog, I debated back and forth whether or not I would include my faith and beliefs in my weekly post- however, there was no question in my heart that sharing my faith and journey in my relationship with the Lord with you guys would be absolutely necessary. I love clothes, fashion and styling- I could talk about those things all day long, but my faith is the core of who I am and who the Lord is shaping me into daily.

Looking back over the past couple of months...going through the valleys- the highs and lows, one thing has remained constant...the presence of the Lord has been with me always. When I had to make what seemed like the toughest decision at the time to let go of a relationship out of obedience to the Lord- His presence was my strength. His presence gave me the words to say, and my heart was sealed with His peace that passes all understanding. Now, does that mean that I haven't had my moments of questioning the decision He gave to me, or being upset, or trying to figure out how my life would play out from that point on? No, it absolutely doesn't. Because I'm human, and my finite mind isn't able to even comprehend the ways of the Lord.

 The Lord is teaching me through this season that even in the midnight hour, there is still hope. He's teaching me that I, in my flesh am weak, and the enemy is fierce (or thinks he's fierce) and will try to do anything to steal, kill and destroy the faith, hope and confidence that I have in a Father who loves me unconditionally, who is bold, mighty and strong. God is preparing me, and preparing you for greater things. Even in the mess, he is still a GOOD God and he knows you better than you even know yourself. Trust in his truth and in His word which is the bread of life and KNOW THAT HE IS GOD. Better days are coming! As believers, and lovers of the Lord we are to still praise Him in the storm, in the deepest valleys just because he is still God. Hold tight to His promises. Take your thoughts captive, and keep your focus on the Lord.

I hope this encourages you to continue to press forward toward greater things that God has planned for you!

The Magnetic Fashion Show

So thankful for each of these beautiful ladies! Thank you so much for taking time out of your weekend to be a part of this experience.

Of course we had to take a selfie!!

My mom and I being silly in the photo booth! I wouldn't have been able to put the show together without her help! Thank you mama! :)

About a week ago, I had the honor and privilege of coordinating my very first Fashion Show! I would have never thought or even considered taking on such a task, but something within me told me to go for it. After all, my heart and passion lies in styling people and making them look and feel good about themselves. It was the perfect opportunity and I just could not say no.

For weeks, I along with a committee of other women planned and prayed over a girls conference that would be run by girls for girls. Cool concept right?! Lynn Cowell, author of Magnetic, Becoming the Girl He Wants, decided that she wanted to create a weekend of fellowship for young high school girls who share a heart for the Lord and for one another. The weekend was full of praise & worship time, Question and Answer with a panel of young women, a Fashion show, arts and crafts and so much more.

 It was such an awesome experience getting to spend time with each of the girls I chose for the show. Each of them had their own distinct personality and sense of style. It was truly a Magnetic Experience. My main focus for the show was this year's fall trends, and each girl represented a different trend. We showcased inspirational ways to rock Camo, Pastels, the Utility Jacket, Animal Print, Leather, Denim on Denim and Floral Print. Don't they all look adorable?! I'm so so thankful for this opportunity and the way that the Lord continues to show me my purpose, and my gifts. He is so faithful. I hope you guys enjoy your weekend!

More of YOU Mondays: You Don't Have to Try

I stumbled across this video yesterday, and it's probably hands down, one of the most moving music videos I've seen in awhile. As if I didn't love Colbie Calliat enough already, her transparency and authenticity portrayed through these lyrics and visuals make me admire her even more . I love that this video represents a common social stigma that all females struggle with. The struggle of not accepting ourselves as enough, and constantly trying to amount to the world's standards and perception of beauty. We want to be accepted. And, we not only want to look and feel beautiful but we want to be told that we're beautiful.

Today's society has totally warped our minds and our thought life. There are a lot of us who are consumed with trying to attain something that we are not, something that we were never made to be and that can be overwhelming and exhausting. Each of you are made beautiful in your own way. There is no one else on this entire earth like you. No one with your smile, with your hair, your laugh and the list goes on. Embrace what makes you different, and what makes you you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made! Psalm 139: 14 says:

 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
    you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
    Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
    I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
    you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
    how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
    all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
    before I’d even lived one day.

You don't have to try. Your beauty comes from the inner peace of accepting yourself, and loving yourself the way that no one else can. So stop letting society define who you are, and how you see yourself when you look into the mirror. Fiercely love yourself first, and your beauty will shine from the inside out.

Neutrals & More of YOU Monday Motivation

Jumpsuit: Marshalls. Shoes: Fergie via Ross Dress for Less. Snakeskin Clutch: Target.  Necklace: Pop Up Shop (can't remember the name, sorry!) Similar: Here. Lipgloss: Maybelline New York The Elixir in Fuchsia Flourish.
Happy Monday!! I hope that everyone had a fabulous weekend. I'm a firm believer that the next best thing to a cute little romper, is a FIERCE jumpsuit! This is a Marshall's #fabfind that I scored a couple of months ago, and I'm absolutely in love with how adorable this look came together. Neutrals are a great color palette to play with especially in the summer. There's nothing better than feeling light, airy and playful in a cute summer get up.The color combo of black and cream in this floral number is perfect for any summer night outing, or could easily be paired with a fitted black blazer for work.

Here's to a new day and a new week to live life! Live according to your own standards, and not according to the standards of others. This is something that I'm still learning, even as a 25 year old. We're all learning in this thing called life. Shine with purpose today, because there is purpose for your life. Be bold in what sets you apart from others, because there is no one like YOU!;) Here are some of my favorite quotes that I've been keeping top of mind. Hope you enjoy!

More of YOU Mondays: What Makes You Happy?

More of YOU Mondays is back after a little break last week! I took a much needed vacation with my boyfriend and his family, and I had such a great time. Last week we roadtripped to Michigan, St. Louis and Branson, MO and lastly, Nashville. We did a lot of travelling but I loved every second of it! I love traveling, and was very much looking forward to getting to spend time with him and his family. Also, I'm a big fan of a good ole family road trip, and its something that his family is really into, which I love. They love picking up and just going and experiencing the world around them which I can really appreciate. Life is all about seeing different things and experiencing different places! I was excited to get to see and experience places that I had never been before. We ate lots of delicious home cooked food, laughed, and cherished the time together.

Needless to say, we (well, the men lol) drove long long hours over the course of the week and we spent a lot of time in the car. I like to be comfortable when I travel, so I wore acid wash distressed denim, paired with a cotton camo print T-shirt, a classic pair of chucks, bangles and a pair of Aviators. Everything except the Chucks came from Target! I'm OBSESSED with these Chuck Taylors, which were a gift from my boyfriend. I guess you could say that I am behind on owning a pair of classic Chuck Taylors, especially after hearing that my dad owned a pair way way back in the day! lol anyways, I'll definitely be adding more pairs to my new little collection. They are super comfy, and stylish for any laid back outfit of the day.

I hope you all have a fabulous Monday! and whatever you decide to do in life whether it be career-wise, relationships, friendships, etc. make sure that it makes YOU happy! Don't get so caught up in pleasing others, that you neglect to take care of your happiness FIRST. Go forth and be HAPPY! BE YOU!

Hareem Pants & Hoodies

Ahhh it's finally THURSDAY! One day closer to the weekend. Thank goodness! I've been slammed this week with getting acclimated with my new job which I started last Thursday. So far its been great! My first couple of days were a little overwhelming, but overall this week has been great. Getting back into the swing of things has me more than ready for the weekend. And, my boyfriend is coming into town! So I'm super excited for a fun, relaxing weekend in the city.

Today's outfit inspiration is following the latest sporty chic trend. I was inspired by Trina over at The BabyShopaholic. If you guys haven't checked out her blog you need to head on over! Her and her daughter are the most adorable fashionistas and Trina's Mamanista Fridays are sure to give you some outfit and style inspiration.

The new, sporty chic trend is basically a compilation of comfortable, athletic wear meets chic. I would have never in a million years put this look together, but that's what happens when you're creative, on a budget and inspired by other fabulous fashion bloggers!

 Hareem pants are probably the next best thing to leggings! Let me tell you! They are so comfy, have an elastic waistband (cause let's be honest, who doesn't love an elastic waistband?! lol) and they can be dressed up or down. Best. thing. ever! I've been overly obsessive over Aztec prints so when I laid my eyes on these babies, I was SOLD.
 I paired the printed Hareem pants with a tourquoise hoodie from Marshalls, and a studded distressed denim vest to give it that sporty chic vibe. A hoodie and denim vest is now one of my go to's for my "Saturday running errands" outfit just because it's easy and comfortable but you still look put together. I'm always running into someone I know, even in a city like Charlotte, lol so I have to always be on my A game.
 To complete my sporty chic look, I added  a classic pair of nude pumps. A simple touch of class and elegance goes a long way, especially with this outfit. I feel and look laid back, however the heels give my outfit some versatility. I could throw this on and make a quick Target run, or could even rock this look on a casual, chill Sunday brunch date. The options are endless.
Turquoise Hoodie: Marshalls. Studded, distressed Denim Vest: JCPenny. Aztec Hareem Pants: Marshalls. Nude Pumps: Marshalls.
To be completely honest, I wasn't sure how I was feeling about the trend but now that I've made it my own, its one of my new favorites. Pairing a baseball cap with a plaid button down and some leather leggings is another way you can try the sporty chic trend. Or, you could also put together a varsity jacket with a cute little beanie. Have fun with it and make it your own!

How do you guys feel about the new sporty chic trend? Would you rock this look?

More of YOU Mondays!

HAPPY MONDAY!!  I know that I can't be the only one who is riding the struggle bus EVERY Monday morning (WITH coffee in hand lol) wishing that weekends were just a leeeetlee bit longer. It neverrrrr fails! Sometimes, it can be challenging to get yourself geared up for a new week. I know, I know, Mondays are so blahhhh, sooo ewww! lol But, I've found myself making more of a conscious effort to start my Mondays out with a motivational quote or by texting encouraging words to a close family member or friend to start off their day. You would be surprised how much of a difference it makes in your outlook for the day and week. When I do, I've noticed I feel so much more empowered, and positive about the week ahead of me

So, in the spirit of spreading positivity,  I thought I would encourage all of you as you start your week! More of YOU Mondays will be inspirational posts that will focus on accepting and embracing the beautiful person that you are. We all have faults, shortcomings and downfalls, and I believe that sometimes our biggest shortcoming lies in what we think of ourselves. We all tend to find that ONE thing or many things that we don't like about ourselves. I know, cause I do it allll the time. We are the first ones to find something wrong with ourselves, both inwardly and outwardly and make it to be so much bigger than it actually is. Lets start a revolution of changing that mindset!

Let's embrace who we are, flaws and all. It's freeing! And I refuse to be bound up by wishing that I were someone else, or had someone else's life, or that I wasn't this way or that way. I was created and made to be Shauntel and YOU were created and made to be YOU! How much of a difference would it make in the way we live out our dreams and aspirations if we were confident, and embraced who we are as individuals. We each add something unique to this world, and to the relationships we have with others. So, I challenge you to dig deep and find that something special, that gem that sets you apart from everyone else. Amplify on that! Believe in it! And soon, it will become second nature and will exude outwardly in your confidence and beauty. Are you willing to except the challenge?
