It's crazy to even think 2016 is 2 days away from being over. I always love this time of year, as its much often a time spent resting, reflecting and preparing to enter into a new season of life. 2016 was a year filled with many challenges and closed doors as well as exciting opportunities and self-realizations. This was actually the first year that I made an effort to type out my New Years' "Resolutions" and I actually managed to successfully cross a couple off of my list. This is definitely a tradition I am going to keep going for myself to help maintain focus and intentionality within my day to day.

As I get older, I want every part of my life to hold meaning and purpose. My purpose ultimately rests in being a vessel for the Lord, and doing what I do in my professional life as well as in my hobbies all to give him honor and praise. There are so many new and exciting adventures that I want to embark on in the new year, and I find myself thinking "how in the world is this going to happen?!" but the still small voice of the Lord always keeps me anchored in hope and faith. I trust and believe that only the absolute best is yet to come and that it won't come too soon nor will it come too late. His promises will be right on time, and perfect in every way. I'm excited for my purpose to continue to unfold within my personal life, my professional life as well as my blog. I'm so appreciative to all of you who have followed along on my journey so far. I plan on being a lot more consistent, and intentional with providing the best content for you guys so I hope that you will stick around!

I'm closing out 2016 with this super chic New Year's Eve outfit that has to be one of my favorites to date. I bought this metallic skater skirt almost 2 summers ago and never managed to find the time to wear it until now! It's the perfect festive piece to have in your closet for an anniversary date, birthday, Christmas party or New Year's Eve i.e. this post. I paired it with a comfortable velvet onesie from Marshalls with a sexy V-neck illusion neckline and my favorite Marc Fisher lace up tassel sandals as the weather has been quite warm as of lately. I kept the festive vibe going with my sparkly, gray tassel earrings from H&M and the cutest of cutest minibags from Marshalls.

Wishing you a Happy New Year!

Sayonara Summer?

Off the Shoulder Top: Romwe found here.Choker Necklace: Belk. Distressed White Denim: Marshalls. Mules: Dolce Vita via Belk similar found here. Sunnies: Quay Australia via Marshalls

Hi there!! Sorry it's been a minute since I've posted any outfit inspiration. The past couple months have been a bit of a whirlwind- simply put...being a twenty-something can sometimes have you all feeling like "what the heck am I doing with my life?! Where was the Life 101 course in college?! Ha!
Now onto more important things, like this super, cute Marigold off-the-shoulder top I scored for under $15 found here. I am loving the fact that the cold shoulder trend is carrying over into the fall season just because there is something so simple, yet chic and feminine about bare shoulders. Although this outfit might scream summer to you, the marigold hue of the blouse is perfect for fall, and lets be honest- who is actually following the "no white after Labor Day rule" umm clearly not me! Also, I have been living in these Dolce Vita mules which are perfect for these indecisive temps. How are you wearing the cold shoulder trend for Fall?

The Caftan Dress

Dress: H&M found here. Shoes: Steve Madden via Burlington Coat Factory similar found here.

I know I can't be the only one having serious FOMO looking at all of the Instagram stories, snapchats and posts of NYFW. Ahhh, its my dream to one day make it to the concrete jungle and play an active part in New York Fashion week. I love everything I have seen on the runways and seeing all of the Spring shows has me inspired to start changing out my summer wardrobe for fall. One thing I love about a good summer piece, is that it can be transitional into the cooler temps like this palm fronds/floral print Caftan dress from H&M. Seriously, all of the heart eyes. I love the long sleeves, that make it that much more of a transitional fall piece. I can't wait to pair it with my blush pink motto jacket that I styled here. It's still pretty warm here in Charlotte...who am I kidding?! It's hot as hades like every single day, but I have my fingers crossed that cooler weather is right around the corner.

Waisted

High-Waisted Denim: Marshalls. Shoes: Steve Madden found here. Stripped Body Suit: Burlington. Tassel Earrings: H&M

You are probably looking at these pictures and think I'm absolutely crazy to be wearing denim in the hot, sticky temperatures we've been experiencing lately buttt how in the world could I not pass up a great pair of high-waisted denim. I am especially looking forward to wearing this staple piece throughout fall and winter- which can you believe Fall is literally right around the corner?!

High-waisted denim makes me feel instantly more thin, and sexy. Being that I'm already on the shorter side, I chose to pair this look with my favorite pair of chunky, Steve Madden peep toe heels. I love how this stripped bodysuit goes so well with how simple and chic this whole fit is. What pieces have you started adding to your wardrobe for Fall?

Cold Shoulder

Dress: Marshalls. Lace Up Heels: Marc Fisher  via Belk. Bag: Marshalls. Tassel Earrings: H&M.

I'm clearly obsessed with little white dresses this summer. Sorry, not sorry! I have been clinging to clean whites, and natural hues this summer which sounds kind of basic, but sometimes simplicity in your everyday style is key. I love how crisp, fresh and lightweight this cold shoulder number is- it's so perfect for summer and the blue embroidered detail is perfect for this weekend's 4th of July festivities. I paired this flowy Free People like dress with my Marc Fisher lace up heels and my favorite tassel earrings. Not to mention that I snagged this dress for a steal at my favorite place ever! Marshalls! for only...$20!

Can you guys believe we are already in July?! Where does the time go? Seriously! I'll be spending this 4th of July weekend celebrating my great grandmothers 99th birthday, and grilling/hanging out by the pool with friends. Do you guys  have plans for the holiday?

70s Flare

I am loving the re-invention of the 70's trend. The bell bottoms, bell sleeves, fringe, platforms, retro sunnies and modest swimsuits and necklines are giving me so much life! This summer smock, and sunnies remind me of everything about 70's fashion. All I need is a little bit more Farrah Faucet flip and I'll be good! I love the high neckline, and gingham pattern of this dress- it's perfect for a Saturday picnic, brunch with the girls, or some summer fun in the city. Also, the price tag gave me all the heart eyes at just $17!

There are 4 different ways to incorporate the 70's remix trend into your wardrobe. First, invest in a pair of slim fit perfectly belled, bell bottoms or culottes. This is such a chic and sophisticated look and I'm so glad that it's making it's reappearance as a casual piece or a workwear piece. Since the weather will be getting warmer as the months go on, stick to lighter weight fabrics when it comes to finding this perfect piece. Second, incorporate fringe in small doses. There are plenty of cute fringe, gladiator sandals, crossbodies with fringe detail, and fringed denim is huge now but with fringe it's easy to over do it. Be selective in what you choose to be your staple fringe piece for an outfit. A little bit goes a long way with. Third, platform shoes! Nothing says 70's like the platform shoe. The height of these shoes range, but no matter the highness of the shoe, these are the most comfortable pair of "heels" I've worn in a while. I could wear these Steve Madden Rose Gold platforms for hours and not even think twice about it. This purchase was so worth it. Fourth, a pair of rounded, retro sunnies are an inexpensive way to give your look some 70's flare.

What do you guys think of the 70's trend? Leave me your thoughts in the comment section below!

#Accessorize

Shoes: Steve Madden similar found here. Bag: Tory Burch via Nordstrom Rack. Skirt: Forever 21 found here. Chambray Top: Loft found here. Sunnies: Francesca's similar here

Happy Sunday! I cannot believe that the weekend is already coming to a close- don't they always go by so fast?! I had a pretty eventful weekend, and it started off just the way I like it...a trip to the mall for a little bit errr maybe a lot a bit of shopping! I've partnered with Concord Mills to bring you the cutest case of the blues! I mean, isn't everything about this fit to die for? Concord Mills has some of the best shopping right here in the Charlotte area- there are ton of different retailers to choose from and they all offer this year's Spring trends of Metallics, Florals, Stripes and Cobalt for affordable prices! Now through May 31st, Concord Mills will hold their first Accessorize Your Spring sale month long event where you can shop for this springs trends and save up to 70% off! If you guys have been following me for some time, then you know that I love a good deal.

Chambray is such classic staple piece and is so worth the investment. It can be dressed up, dressed down or even paired with your favorite pair of denim to create a chic Canadian Tuxedo- which bee tee dubs, that's just fancy terms for denim on denim ;) I decided to pair my soft, chambray top with this stripped midi skirt from Forever 21. The material is lightweight, which will be perfect for the humid, North Carolina temps headed our way soon. I finished my look with a pop of metallic. These Steve Madden Rose Gold platforms give the whole outfit a little bit of edge, not to mention they're super comfortable and under $60. This Spring, metallics are the perfect neutral to give your outfit a pop of uniqueness. These shoes literally go with everything, so I'm warning you now that I'll be a repeat shoe offender for the months to come. Lastly, these nude rounded sunnies are the perfect touch of 70s flare.

If you're in or from the Charlotte area, make your way to Concord Mills before it's too late to save BIG on all of my favorite spring trends!

Happy Shopping :)

Natural

The natural scenery during spring and summer has to be one of my favorite things about the warmer months. That, and eating watermelon on the porch while reading a good book! Spring and Summer in North Carolina are the absolute best...the southerly breeze and clear blue skies during the day and the warm summer, star-filled nights are pure perfection.

As the days warm up, I have the freedom to get back into my wash n go natural hair routine without risking getting a cold! This is my go-to hairstyle on the weekends when the humidity is unbearable, and when I don't want to spend hours straightening my hair just for it to poof back up. This past weekend was cloudy and rainy, and it was super quick to do my normal wash routine, add some of the products I love and just go. My favorite products are from the Shea Moisture line. I've  been natural for almost 3 years now and, have over my natural hair journey become more and more confident in my curls and have learned to feel beautiful in my natural skin. I'll be doing a blog post about the products I use in the future so stay tuned!

This outfit is perfect for both work, church and play. Mustard yellow is one of my favorite natural hues- there is just nothing like it! And chambray is a basic staple that will be sure to go with any and every piece you own in your closet. I've been wearing these Marc Fischer lace up heels with all of my spring outfits and felt like my dollars were well spent adding them to my wardrobe. I promise you'll feel the same way! What are some of your favorite things about the spring/summer season?

Eyelet

Pants: H&M found here. Top: Marshalls. Shoes: Old- Steve Madden via Belk. Bag: Tory Burch via Nordstrom Rack.

One of the things I look forward to about each week is casual Friday. I love waking up on Friday knowing it's the weekend and knowing I don't have to give my outfit any extra thought because it's usually just dark denim and a cute top. But then there's Thursday, you know...Friday eve! By Wednesday, my fancy schmancy workwear is all tapped out, and all I want is to be comfortable but cute. These H&M printed slim fit pants are everything!! They are comfortable, cute and the pattern is unique and playful. Not to mention, the price I got them for is *emoji praise hands* - they were only $15. I mean, how could I not buy these in every color/pattern! The ones I'm wearing are sold out, but I've linked the same pant in different patterns up top. They are lightweight and definitely corporate friendly. I paired them with this gorgeous eyelet white top from...you guessed it! Marshalls. I love how crisp, and summer fresh it is and that I'll be able to pair it with a number of skirts and shorts during the upcoming summer season.

If you're reading this- I think it's safe to say I'm somewhere eating a chocolate chip cookie, a doughnut, or all the above because I've completed the Whole 30 program as of yesterday!! Starting out, I quite honestly never thought this day would get here! Although the program was a bit of a challenge on the weekends, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the journey. I lost a total of 7 lbs, and feel more energized than ever! I thought it would be easiest to do a Q & A of all of the questions I've been asked while on the program. I'll also provide the links to the Whole 30 grocery list I used, as well as a day by day tracker of how you're body is supposed to be feeling as you go. If you're interested in doing the program then these resources and having support from your family and friends will be extremely helpful and will set you up for success!

Q: "Have you had sugar cravings while doing Whole 30?"

A: "Yes and no! The biggest reason for me doing the program was to see how my body responds to certain foods, and to reset my metabolism. I realized very early on how much sugar I intake on a day to day basis and it really made me more aware. If I did crave sugar, I would treat myself to Larabar (make sure that they are Whole 30 complaint, I thought all Larabars were Whole 3o compliant and accidentally made the mistake of eating one that wasn't but I didn't know until after-technically you're supposed to start over but it was like Day 9 and there was no way I was starting over plus I only had 1 bar, and it wasn't like I purposefully ate something I wasn't supposed to. Whoops! I just made sure that I paid very close attention to the labels going forward.)"

Q: "How do you feel? Have you noticed a difference?"

A: "I've definitely noticed a difference in the overall way my body and stomach felt. I didn't feel lethargic after eating meals. I felt light and full but not too full. It was like I was giving my body exactly what it needed to satisfy the hunger. I noticed during the first week and a half that my tummy was flatter than normal! I did slack on my workouts the first couple of weeks from being a tad bit tired than normal. I think the idea of working out after work, and then having to think about what to eat was tiring in itself. I would definitely suggest to plan out your meals as much as possible."

Q: "What's been the hardest part of the program?"

A: "I mentioned in my first post that I was already eating pretty healthy on the weekdays before I started Whole 30 so cutting out more things wasn't too too hard. I was able to find other ways to give my body what it needed minus all the bad stuff. I definitely would say that the hardest part was the weekends. I felt like I couldn't be social without feeling like I was missing out! That doesn't mean I wasn't social, but I just had to have ten times the self-control when going out with friends. It sucks, but you feel so good when you stick to what you say you're going to do and you pick the healthier option."

Q: "What are you going to change going forward?"

A: "I decided that I'm going to limit my sugar intake, by not putting 3 spoonfuls of sugar in my coffee every morning and just doing one spoonful. I'm going to keep using the unsweetened Califia Farms Almond Creamer I've been using because it taste great and using sweetened creamer just isn't necessary. I'm going to try and limit how much grains I eat during the week days. With my healthy meals, I was doing a lot of brown rice but I'm going to limit that intake to once a week, and substituting with quinoa as much as possible. Overall, I'm really going to try to stick to the Whole 30 or Paleo diet during the week and let myself have a cheat meal...or 2 :) on the weekends. Also, I'm going to makes sure that I eat breakfast every day now! I've always been told it's the most important meal of the deal but didn't really care to give my body the fuel it needs in the morning. I am definitely not skipping a breakfast ever again!"

Q: "Would you do the Whole 30 program again?"

A: "I would 100% do the program again! I enjoyed the foods that I ate, and I never was really hungry. I think a lot of times we mistake our hunger for being bored or thirsty. I was lucky enough to do the program with a couple of coworkers from work, who joined me when I was one week in. It helped being able to talk to them when I was frustrated, or just to have conversations about what foods they were eating and loving. I would suggest to have as much support as possible because it's hard going it alone!"

Please don't hesitate to email me if you guys should have any additional questions!!

Chambray + Aztec

Chambray Shift Dress: Old Navy. Earrings: H&M. Shoes: Marc Fisher via Belk found here. Bag: Tory Burch via Nordstrom Rack. Watch:  Guess. Bangles: Old Navy.

Much like classic black and white style (if you missed Wednesday's post check it out here) I don't think chambray is anywhere close to leaving the runways this Spring or going out of style any time soon. Chambray, a lighter version of denim with the same type of look is a great piece to have whether it be a button down top, a romper, or a shift dress like the one I scooped up from Old Navy a couple of weeks ago. Not to mention that I got it for a major steal...try $9. Yep, pretty much makes my life when I'm willing to take on the jungle of clothes that blew up in the clearance section of Old Navy and find pieces like this . It's worth it ladies I'm telling you! It just takes a little bit of patience and the will to walk out of the store with a great deal! There is nothing quite like the feeling of knowing you saved tons of money on a piece you'll be sure to wear over and over again for the next couple of months to a year.
