Oxblood Leather, Plaid and Distressed Denim

Oxblood Leather Skater Skirt: Five13Studio or similar here. Plaid flannel top: Marshalls. Distressed Denim Vest with Stud Detail: JCPenny. Studded Ankle Booties: Ross.
So, remember that one time a week ago when it was 70 degrees. IN JANUARY. Yeah me too, and I wanna go back OR fast forward to spring. Currently in the Carolinas, the high is 21 and, the streets are lightly dusted with snow and some ice. Yep, its an official SNOW DAY for us Southerners. Did any of you get snow?

Obviously I took these outfit pics a week ago, you know when the weather was actually bearable. LOL. I hateee the cold weather, but do love the layering, the deep wintery wine lip tones and I love a cute pair of little booties.

Since it felt like fall/spring in January that day(thank you awkward NC weather!) I decided on this Oxblood leather skater skirt, paired with a button down flannel plaid top, and a distressed denim vest with stud detail.

Oxblood is such a sexy color for both fall and winter! Its deep, sultry tone add the perfect element of sass to almost any look. Skater skirts are also a huge trend now and are easily a transitional staple piece from fall/winter to spring/summer. Aldo has a great selection of patterned tights, and I got these crossed printed ones on clearance after the holidays for $6! They add some edge and give me that rocker chic feel.  Printed and lace tights are great accessory pieces to have in your closet, especially, during the fall/winter months because they have the ability to totally transform your whole outfit AND they keep you warm! heyyyyy!

Lastly, I added some bohemian vibes with this black bohemian braided head band from Target. Head bands are my go to for when I'm having a bad hair day, don't feel like doing my hair orrr just simply want to look cute.

How would you recreate your own rocker chic/bohemian style look?

Loving lipsticks these days! This is Revlon Plum Velour

More of YOU Mondays-Pursuing Positivity

Well, that time of year has come and gone once again! Grammy time of course! I love everything about the Grammys. Everything from the gorgeous, red carpet glam, to the performances, to the pure celebration of music past, present and future. LOVE. (stay tuned for my Grammys post!)

To be dressed from head to toe in the finest couture, and designer labels. I would die! Visions of last nights elegant looks: the hair, the makeup, and the sequins, THE.SEQUINS. are what's keeping me going on this Monday. Well, that AND Pastor Steven Furticks message yesterday from his Sticks and Stones series.

Yall, I left church yesterday ready to jump in the ring with a pair of Everlast punching gloves, sohoooo ready to just bust the enemy in his eye! Now, I'm a lover not a fighter.  LOL, but sometimes you just have to stick it to em! Show'em who's boss.

Pastor Steven's message was focused on the approach and attitude that we are to maintain during life's difficult circumstances. It was one of those right on time messages yet again. It really made me think of how often I am guilty of letting little, negative annoying thoughts seep into the caverns of my precious heart, and how often I forget that I always have the victory in every situation and circumstance. ALWAYS. Not sometimes, not maybe. But I always have the victory because I am a Child of God and the Lord fights for me!

When I chose to be mindful of my thought life, and when I believe that the Lord is with me and fighting for me during trials and tribulations I instantly feel as if I could take on the world. My thoughts and circumstances become so miniscule in comparison to the BIG and MIGHTY God that I serve.

This is the kind of attitude and approach we need to purposely instill within our minds. Day in and day out. It's a constant battle. Some days you may feel like you're losing and some days you may feel like giving up. Sometimes you might even experience feelings of being unfit for the Lord's blessings. And, it's in those moments of weakness that you are to hold tight to His truth and approach your situation with a boldness like no other!

We are responsible for taking our thoughts captive. That means, before that next negative thought has a chance to enter into your heart you take it and cast it down. In other words, you K-O that thought and KEEP IT MOVIN! You replace it with a positive thought, and continue throughout your day with a steadfast, immovable, unshakeable positive attitude. I challenge you to join me in pursuing positivity in ALL circumstances. How do you keep a positive attitude?

Here is a link to Pastor Steven Furticks full message (Slingers and Swingers-Keep Your Distance), I hope it inspires you as much as it did me!

Goodwill Hunting

Cable Knit Boyfriend Sweater: Goodwill. Jean Button Down: Target. Watch: Michael Kors. Camo Print Pants: Dots Fashion. Animal Print Wedges: Dots Fashion

I have a new found love. It's name is THRIFTING! Holyyy cheap, used decor and sometimes cute clothing! LOL. I stopped by Goodwill during the holidays, only looking for a chalkboard to use during an engagement photo shoot I had last month and found this super cute crew neck, cable knit boyfriend sweater.

At first glance, I was a little disturbed by how identical it looked to a sweater my mother OR father probably owned in the 90's, BUT something told me to snag it. After all, it was only $4. $4!! What could it hurt?! I tried it on when I got home, and hysterically laughed at myself as I looked in the mirror. It looked like I was channeling my inner Denise Huxtable. LOL I'm not even kidding. The sweater by itself was just not doing it for me. I almost threw it in a pile to go BACK to Goodwill, but then I got creative.

I had the idea to pair the boyfriend sweater with a jean button down, some camo pants and a cute animal print laced wedge. A complete transformation from the frumpy look of the sweater by itself. Mixing prints makes your look so effortlessly fashionable, bold and cute. It's a great way to utilize what you already have in your closet while also experimenting with patterns and textures to create your own look.

Cheers to Denise Huxtable's timeless style-spiration done right and many more trips to the Thrift shop in my near future.

More of YOU Mondays!- No Fear, No Failure.

Happy Monday! I hope that everyone had a great weekend. Mine started off a little on the rocky side due to some unexpected changes that happened at work on Friday. Don't get me wrong, change is good! But these changes caught me completely off guard. Sometimes life just straight up karate chops you in the face, and you're all like WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NEXT?! I panicked cause this wasn't in the plan, I was discouraged, and I felt alone.

While I was blindly trying to wade through my thoughts of why me? why now?, I stumbled upon this picture (above) that was posted on Heather Lindsey's instagram. And, it was right on time. Isn't it funny how God always seems to reveal songs and messages to us that are so perfect, and so fitting for trials in our lives? It blows my mind every single time.

I'm so grateful for who He is in my life. For his perfect timing. For His peace that passes all understanding.

I've quickly come to the realization that its not meant for us to figure out why, how or when. Instead, we have to put aside our questions, fears and negative thoughts and truly believe deep in our hearts and in our spirits that we are right where God wants us to be. He makes no mistakes. He places us in the right places at just the right times, and often times he places people in our lives to serve a special purpose and need during those difficult seasons.

Even though I don't know what is on the horizon for me, and I have no idea where the Lord is taking me, I trust him and his perfect plans for my life. I know that he loves me far more than I love myself, and that He wants nothing but the best for me. While naturally, I have feelings of fear and anxiety because I'm such a control freak! LOL. Those feelings are put to rest by his truth. He tells me in his word to be still, and to wait on him. He also tells me, that because he lives within me, failure IS NOT in my vocabulary.

I encourage you this Monday to believe in the marvelous plans that God has for you! His plans are special and specifically made for you and only you. He wants you to be encouraged, to excel in all that you do, and to DREAM BIG! Take control of those negative thoughts. Whenever they rise up, you speak the truth about yourself and your abilities! You say, I AM more than enough! I AM bright and I AM beautiful.

it's a beautiful life!

I'm feeling a little under the weather, but I'm glad it's Thursday! Friday Eve. I don't know about yall but this is my most favorite day of the week besides hump day!

I want to talk skincare today! It's essential to establish a consistent skin care routine in order to keep your pores cleansed, skin glowing and to also take preventative measures with breakouts.

More of YOU Mondays!

HAPPY MONDAY!!  I know that I can't be the only one who is riding the struggle bus EVERY Monday morning (WITH coffee in hand lol) wishing that weekends were just a leeeetlee bit longer. It neverrrrr fails! Sometimes, it can be challenging to get yourself geared up for a new week. I know, I know, Mondays are so blahhhh, sooo ewww! lol But, I've found myself making more of a conscious effort to start my Mondays out with a motivational quote or by texting encouraging words to a close family member or friend to start off their day. You would be surprised how much of a difference it makes in your outlook for the day and week. When I do, I've noticed I feel so much more empowered, and positive about the week ahead of me

So, in the spirit of spreading positivity,  I thought I would encourage all of you as you start your week! More of YOU Mondays will be inspirational posts that will focus on accepting and embracing the beautiful person that you are. We all have faults, shortcomings and downfalls, and I believe that sometimes our biggest shortcoming lies in what we think of ourselves. We all tend to find that ONE thing or many things that we don't like about ourselves. I know, cause I do it allll the time. We are the first ones to find something wrong with ourselves, both inwardly and outwardly and make it to be so much bigger than it actually is. Lets start a revolution of changing that mindset!

Let's embrace who we are, flaws and all. It's freeing! And I refuse to be bound up by wishing that I were someone else, or had someone else's life, or that I wasn't this way or that way. I was created and made to be Shauntel and YOU were created and made to be YOU! How much of a difference would it make in the way we live out our dreams and aspirations if we were confident, and embraced who we are as individuals. We each add something unique to this world, and to the relationships we have with others. So, I challenge you to dig deep and find that something special, that gem that sets you apart from everyone else. Amplify on that! Believe in it! And soon, it will become second nature and will exude outwardly in your confidence and beauty. Are you willing to except the challenge?

Cozy Chic

Brrr!! Sooo about this polar vortex we've been experiencing...umm yeah its been freakishly cold, and kinda sorta unbearable (ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a little lol!) I hope you all have been doing your best to stay warm! Everyone should have a stylish & fab, yet cozy go to coat for these cold winter days. I have a longer, wool pea coat with silver button embellishment detail from Forever 21, that I received a couple years ago as a Christmas gift from my parents. BEST CHRISTMAS GIFT EVER and I wear the heck out of it, especially over these past couple of days. But I would really like to add to my cozy, coat collection and what better place to find an inexpensive, cute coat than Forever 21. Here are a couple of my favorite coats they have in stock right now, and they are all under $70. That's not bad at all for a nice coat that will last you at least a couple of years. I think I've had mine for about 5 years now. I especially love the animal print trenchie and the army green utility jacket with fur. What are some of your favorites? How are you keeping warm?

Imperfect Inspiration

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Ehhrrmagahhdd its 2014! So crazy! I know I've probably said that at least ten times over the past couple of days,  but I really can't believe its already another new year. I had the best New Years Eve with really great friends at a local dessert lounge here in Charlotte called Crave. We talked, laughed, ate yummy food and desserts (my favorite) and it was just really great to ring in the year surrounded by such great company. Definitely by far one of my favorite New Years!. I wore a pretty little fuchsia pink Asymmetric Flutter Sleeve dress from Bebe with a touch a turquoise accessories to complete the look. I wasn't really feeling the whole sparkle craze for the new year, but figured that this bold color would still make a statement. The dress was super cute, fitted and comfortable.

I'm a "to-do" list kind of gal, therefore I am usually one who likes to write out goals and resolutions that I would like to accomplished during a new year, but I haven't really gotten around to doing it yet and I'm okay with that. Instead of writing out resolutions or what not, I've realized that this year, I would really like to focus on renewing my mindset on a daily basis. Just taking life one day at a time, but waking up and really living with a purpose and being conscious of the impact that I have on others lives around me. I feel like often times we just wake up and go through the motions of our daily routine, which I'm 100% guilty of doing, but in this year I would like to wake up each day with refreshed and renewed purpose, prospective and vision to just be conscious of my daily interactions, and of maintaining a positive thought-life as well. Since I created this blog as a means to inspire my readers to be themselves, and embrace who they are within their fashion, style and beauty, this quote seemed very fitting. I'm such a perfectionist, but lets just keep it real and acknowledge the fact that we all have imperfections.

Our imperfections make us individuals, they make us relate-able and they tell the stories of who we are. Very similar to the way that our own personal fashion and style make us individuals, and the clothes that we wear day to day also tell a story about how we are feeling that day, and who we are. There is nothing pretty, nothing real or transparent about perfection. So I challenge you to embrace your imperfections, and let those imperfections be an inspiration for those around you! What will inspire you this year?
